Wondering why your firestick remote won’t work and keep on blinking green?
Unfortunately there’s only very little information about the reason behind this in official Amazon documents.
However, resetting your remote will fix this (or any other remote issues) 9/10 times.
In this post, I’ll go over why your Amazon Firestick remote blinking green and how to fix it. I’ll also explain some other colors that appear along with the green light.
Plus, I’ll give you a quick breakdown of the different remote LED colors and what they mean.
Different LED Signals
Your Amazon Firestick remote is designed in a way that can communicate different things with the user through the color its LED emits and how it blinks or flashes.
These LED signals are there to help you troubleshoot your Firestick remote.
Here are the main signals:
- A blinking blue light indicates that the remote is in pairing mode and searching for a compatible device, like the Firestick or Fire TV.
Note: This happens when you try to pair it with your Firestick for the first time or try to re-pair.
- If it is blinking orange means the remote is not paired properly and needs re-pairing.
- A blinking yellow light is an indicator of signal issues or connection issues.
- You will see a flashing blue light if Alexa (the AI) is active but not waiting for a voice command.
What Does Green Light On Firestick Remote Mean?
The green light on Firestick remote has two meanings. You will see a green light when you turn your Firestick remote on, indicating that the remote is linked to the Firestick.
A BLINKING green light on the other hand is an indicator of the remote being in troubleshooting mode.
How To Fix The Green Blinking Light
Since the blinking green light is to signal the remote being in troubleshooting mode, try turning troubleshooting mode off.
Press and hold the Play/Pause and Up buttons on your remote at the same time for three seconds, and press the Menu button after that.
This will turn off the troubleshooting mode.
If you get a blinking green light without turning the trouble shooting mode on, or still get it after turning the troubleshooting mode off, you can try these:
Step 1. Restart Your Firestick
You need to first check if restarting the device fixes it. A simple reboot can fix a lot of issues.
Unplug your firestick from the power source and let it sit for about a minute.
After that, plug it back in. See if this stopped Firestick remote flashing green.
Step 2. Reset The Remote
If that doesn’t work, you need to reset the Firestick remote. This usually fixes most of the remote blinking or flashing issues.
To reset it, press these 3 buttons simultaneously for about 10 – 15 seconds:
- Back button (return arrow)
- Menu button (one with three horizontal lines),
- Left Navigation Circle button
After that, remove the remote batteries and unplug your firestick. Now you need to wait for a couple of minutes.
Next, re-plug the firestick and let it boot up. Once it’s up, put the batteries back in the remote and don’t press any of the buttons for another minute.
Afterwards press the home button for about 20 – 30 seconds to re-establish connection.
Remember, it’s SUPER IMPORTANT that you do these steps exactly this way.
Step 3. Contact Amazon Support
If that doesn’t do the trick, your only option is to contact Amazon customer support to get it fixed.
Their technical staff will guide you step by step on what to do.
Why Is My Firestick Remote Blinking Orange And Green?
Your Amazon Firestick remote will emit a blinking orange and green light if it is stuck in pairing mode and unable to find a compatible device to connect to.
The only solution for this issue is also to reset your Firestick remote. Sometimes restarting your firestick might just be enough.
But before you do any of that, check the batteries of the remote.
If they are low in power or completely drained, replace them.
Other electric or electronic devices can sometimes interfere with the remote’s signals, so try moving any such appliances further away from your Firestick device if there are any.
Again, if none of that works, your last resort will be to contact Amazon customer service.
Why Is My Amazon Fire Stick Remote Blinking Green And Red?
Your Amazon Firestick remote’s LED will blink green and red to indicate a few different things. It could be either:
Low Battery – If the light (mostly red) is blinking slowly, it could mean that the batteries in your remote do not have enough power left in them.
If you think this is the case, try replacing the batteries.
Pairing Issues – Blinking red and green could also mean that your remote is not paired with your Fire TV Stick properly.
It is also possible that there are other issues with your remote or Firestick device.
Anyways, if this happens you can try restarting, resetting the remote or contacting support.
